
The University of Arkansas β Fort Smith will host its annual cultural event, African Night, at 6 p.m. April 6 in the Reynolds Room of the Smith-Pendergraft Campus Center, located at 800 N. 49th Street.
Hosted by the ΝΓΧΣΟΘΙϊ African Student Association, African Night offers a night of entertainment showcasing African culture and cuisine; a speech by Sherman Banks, the Consul of the Republic of Ghana in Little Rock; a fashion show; and a performance by a renowned African dance group; a performance by the ΝΓΧΣΟΘΙϊ music team; and an educational piece on Africa.
Banks said it was his βesteemed pleasureβ to speak at the event.
βIn line with the 2018 African Night's theme, which is βWin-Win: Celebrating U.S.-Africa,β let us keep in mind that in this world we are a people with many faces and we must strive to speak with one voice,β Banks said. βIn this black-bass and white-treble keyboard of life, every individual matters and is loved through faith. Let us all work toward a time when peace rules the day, reason rules the mind, and compassion rules the heart.β
Tony Osagwu, president of the ΝΓΧΣΟΘΙϊ African Students Association, said the event is a celebration of African culture.
βAfrican Night celebrates the cultural diversity and the unity of the African continent,β Osagwu said. βIt always turns out to be a fun night with entertainment performers, a buffet, dancing, singing, and so much more.β
General admission is $15 and $10 for ΝΓΧΣΟΘΙϊ students and attendees 13 and under.
